…the regular world without electricity or toilets. Or, in other words, the bleak future is a lot like the dim past.
In Fallout, the difference between a vault and the wasteland is exactly two things: electricity and toilets (and perhaps a little bit of picking up after yourself). As anyone who plays the Fallout game knows, the first thing you do when you want to build yourself a shelter - essentially player Post-Apocalyptic The Sims - is to remove all the clutter.
Surely we had society before electricity and toilets (I read something about that once). But a decentralized power grid and smaller in-home batteries will go a long way to heading off the next zombie apocalypse. I’m sure of it!
