I think most people don't seek out new music, even when they are young.

When I was in high school, probably 90% of people found new music by listening to the radio, and that was it. (Me included)
People who find new music by actively seeking it, eg, reading magazines about it, hanging out in record stores, talking about it with friends who are equally into music, etc are in the minority.
