I walked home after a half marathon a couple of times. What’s another mile or so to not have to pay for parking or take shuttle to the start line. Or so went the thinking before the race
Parked at remote lots and took shuttle but never really got stuck in the parking lot
Finished marathon, found running partner after the finish area, went and had pizza and beer to wait out possible parking congestion
Ran five mile race, parked about a mile away from start so as to not have to pay $15 state beach parking fee. It’s downhill to the race start. So guess what it is on the way back to the car?
Out of all of those variations I’d recommend the pizza and beer
