Yes, and yes. Grandaddy was a subsistance farmer/rancher, had a few cows, horses and chickens, and a large kitchen garden. Sold from his hay fields..

...and his cattle (would butcher as needed) as well as drive a school bus. He was a product of his generation (born in 1898), so girls did not ride his horses.. they were work horses, not pleasure riders.
I miss him. He died when I was a teenager but I spent many weekends at his house when i was little. He said I reminded him of my Grandma, who died before I was born. The cattle would eat from my hand, but he wouldn't let me name them.
