people who get the oral vaccine can shed the virus. there have been zero wild polio cases outside of Afghanistan/Pakistan in almost a decade.

2/3 wild virus variants have been eradicated and the 3rd is on track for eradication in a couple years. a few years after that the vaccine-derived cases (which is ~95% of them now, including the one in NYC) also disappear.
