It really is a great walking city, glad you enjoyed! Regarding the space shuttle museum.

The Metro Silver line now goes to Dulles airport now (finally! Think it just opened that extension last year). From there, you can take a public bus or a short uber/taxi to the Udvar-Hazy Center.
Not ideal on a short weekend of course, because that train ride to Dulles is a hike. But just in case you go back.
