I don't get what the calculus was here. Producer money? He's an executive producer for Yellowstone.

Maybe just ego? His career interviews make it sound like he's felt he was the right person to direct projects in the past. So was he thinking "okay Taylor I get what you're trying to do, I think I can do it better"?
