One of the best compliments I've ever received was that I was diplomatic. And part of diplomacy is spelling out the parameters of engagement.

Even if it's not all that pleasant. You should certainly make efforts that your parents feel cherished, but I mean, it's just not reasonable to eff with such a well-developed plan that involves more people that you're investing future experiences in.
