Yeah I hate group projects for exactly this reason. I used to let the groups vote for how they wanted to distribute the points but that gets weird too

It really depends on how the project was introduced and explained as far as ground rules.
If the teacher said “here’s what needs to be done, it’s up to you to divide and conquer” then it is what it is.
If the teacher said “divide the project equally. Each member is responsible for one part.” Then you have a case where you can say “I did what I was responsible for.”
