I'm sure she'll release another version with new songs, but I'm calling it: TTPD doesn't have a real hit, Taylor is officially indestructible.

Agreed on all counts. She's easily the biggest star on the planet, but doesn't have culturally relevant songs anymore.

It's the same with Beyonce.

I'm gay and in my 30s, that's the second largest demo at a Swift concert. -- nm

ah, that’s right, you think she’s mediocre.

Taylor Swift without a doubt has major culturally impact. Her songs haven't had an impact in a decade. -- nm

What does that mean exactly? And what are the examples of songs in the top 10 that have had an impact in the last decade? -- nm

I just realized you may have meant her recent music earlier this year, too. I still disagree, but at least it’s good to see you acknowledge overall impact exists. -- (edited)

I think the point is that she's culturally important in many ways that are far bigger than just her songs.

I'm not diminishing her, I literally said she's the biggest star on the planet. -- nm

I meant diminishing her cultural impact, the cultural impact of her songs. including recent ones. maybe I don’t get what metric you’re using. — nm

It's an attempt to compartmentalize the Taylor Swift phenomenon from a critical perspective, not diminish it, and there's one illustration of it that comes to my mind, regarding TTPD specifically -- (edited)

some people did that for sure, but a whole lot of people have no interest.

Yeah, I think the issue was over saturation. She’s got too much out. She won’t release anything but a Taylors version for a couple years now. -- nm

She's definitely at an inflection point after that, though. TTPD didn't leave much emotional landscape left unexplored

i think she's talented in myriad ways but also mostly agree with Neil Tennant that she doesn't have a body of iconic hits in the same way as Madonna

I’d never compare her overall career as of now to madonna, because that’s just wrong with 4-5 decades and early impact in a different time; but there

(like is it more or less impressive that she has the cultural impact she undeniably has without being as ubiquitous on MTV as Madge was for 20 yrs?)
