It's an attempt to compartmentalize the Taylor Swift phenomenon from a critical perspective, not diminish it, and there's one illustration of it that comes to my mind, regarding TTPD specifically -- (edited)

in that when it came out, everyone seemed obsessed with discussing who each song was about instead of how good the songs were.
