It’s masterful the way they can weave a plot from what amounts to a series of clips (3 episodes in, and that’s *all* they’ve done so far). The 30 minute episodes are jarring. I expect them to be setting me up for a more drawn out scene, but then… roll credits! Frankly, I don’t know that I could survive more than 30 minutes, and the montage styling of these first 3 episodes makes for incredible pacing, and yet does nothing to take away from the show. If a lesser show did this, it would be dismissed as “just another clip show”. Except, of course, the “clips” we see here are all new scenes and serve to add backstory. I wanted the name of the episode to be “Consequences” or “Fallout” but we see both more of Carmie’s past and scenes from the aftermath of the first nice, so it’s serving to tie up loose ends on both sides of the story. It’s like they’re inventing a new form of cinematic storytelling.
