A mentor? Someone with more experience? I don't know. I realize it's tough. But imparting the value of progress, of compassion (not just for those -- (edited)

that agree with them) is important. The thing I have always talked about with my kids is that the world is made up of a lot more shades of grey than black and white. When you can't be open to others' perspectives and experiences it can create its own bigotry, hate and intolerance. It becomes its own hypocrisy. None of that is to say they can't have their opinions and their own moral compass (it's kind of the point), but compassion matters. And that means recognizing allies who don't share the same absolutism are still allies. That better is good. Progress is progress. If you can't see those things and work towards improvement you actually become a hinderance and make things worse. You essentially become the obstacle. But I get it. I talk about this with my daughter and she wouldn't in a million years have that discussion with them because she's terrified she'll be shunned. She doesn't want that even though it does affect her views of them. I would have that talk with them, but it's easier as an outsider than an insider.
