I think it always depends on the nature of the jokes when you make jokes at others expense. For everyone there are subjects that people can laugh off

and some that are too close to home. That's why the "roast" is always such a tricky event. You want to make fun of somebody about things that they won't care about. Not everyone can tell where the line is.
