We also need an active Dept. of Transportation that will make road design changes which will do so much more than just lowering speed limits.

Something as simple as daylighting every corner will be a huge help and prevent lots of accidents.
For anyone that doesn't know what daylighting is, it's where you don't allow any parking within a certain distance of the corner. You keep the parking say 20' from the corner which gives a much better sight line for pedestrians and drivers.
