This isn't the movies/tv. I would expect there to be very specific rules regarding when you are allowed to open fire on a potential/emergent threat. It's also entirely possible they just f*cked things up.

Oh they fucked up. From the aerial, they probably had other lines covered. This one was too close, too easy to let slide and be exploited. IMHO -- nm
