Just like 2020 it’s always going to have been a referendum of Trump.

My brother is a Trumper. In 2020 he said there was no way more people voted for Biden based on rally size, etc. I agreed and said more people didn’t vote for Biden but more people did vote against Trump.
2016 was somewhat different because there were people who maybe didn’t like his campaign rhetoric but thought it was talk and he wouldn’t govern that way. In 2020 they had the experience of him being president for four years.
My concern for 2024 has always been that without him being in office there might not be the same sense of urgency to vote against Trump. Not that people would vote for him but that they would stay home. That could make the difference in a close election.
