I agree about the lack of effort to re-sign him, but I think that decision had already been made.

If the Saints had moved to the West instead of the Rams in 2002 and the Falcons rarely played them would you still feel that way? What if the trade was the best chance one of your favorite players on the team (might not be him, but I'll use Warrick Dunn as an example) has to win a Super Bowl before he retired?
