Yes, I understand. But I'd also weigh the jobs that will be created against the ones in the supply chain that will disappear in the transition to EVs

and the impact those will have on their communities - which aren't necessarily where the new investments are going.
From a national perspective, IRA has to happen - it's a transformational policy that will keep an auto industry in the US against cheaper + better technology from China.
But at the individual and local level, there are a lot of people and places that will lose out. And the ones that lose out won't care about opportunities that have been won by other people, they'll just care that they are losing out. It's why Biden - the most pro-union president in living memory - has such tepid support from the unions.
