In addition to what was mentioned, the two most important roles of the VP are roles that seldom are needed:

1. The VP is President of the Senate. If there is a tie in a Senate vote, the VP breaks the tie.
2. The VP becomes President should the President resign/pass away/be unable to serve. It's a succession role.
