I admit I did not like it when it came out. I didn't get it, but it was so forward thinking, I appreciated it not too far after.

At that time I had moved a bit from rap to metal / hard rock (definitely was into Metallica and Slayer in 1989), but was still learning about music. The next year at college I sat down and listened to Led Zeppelin albums (didn't really love them before that), then Rush (hated Getty Lee's voice initially), then Depeche Mode (thought it was just weird pop), and others, and started to *appreciate* and understand music as opposed to just consuming music.
