my experience is it's not chaos (or any more chaotic than assigned seating) just the uncertainty esp once you get into the B-Group and above

if i have my seat number, it kinda doesn't matter when they board me b/c i never fly carry-on only so overhead bin space is not a concern. but if i'm B or god forbid C group on Southwest i know i'm fucked for a seat
