I didn't like it my first few times hearing the album. It wasn't until a few years later that I grew to appreciate how amazing the album is.

They were so far ahead of everyone else at the time that it sounded strange. They sampled everyone to the point that they lost track of all the samples.
The music was different than anything else at the time and so no one really liked it. It nearly cost them their music deal as the record label was very close to dropping them after it failed to sell.
