So far in 2024 box office, 10 sequels have been released. 8 have made more than the previous film in the series.

2 (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Bad Boys Ride of Die) made just under the last film.

4 of them (Deadpool and Wolverine, Inside Out 2, Dune 2 and Godzilla x Kong 2) made significantly more than the last film. Sometimes double and sometimes close to $250 million more.

Kung Fu Panda 4 and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes revitalized withering franchises. Twisters brought the disaster movie back to life.

People say they don't want sequels but the way they spend their money says otherwise.
