In response to "My Fitbit Sense (supposedly waterproof to 50m) seemed dead after a swim in the Payette River yesterday. Overnight in a bag of rice, it came back" by crash davis 😺

In the future you can skip the rice as it doesn't help and can only hurt devices as the very fine particles can get into the charging port or other open areas.
You can just hang it up and let it dry.
