I almost always see it used as if winter alone is what illustrates his discontent, instead of winter being “made glorious spring (or summer, whatever :))” -- (edited)

I understood it to refer to his discontent blossoming, not going away because of the change in seasons. Granted, it’s been ages since I’ve actually looked at the text.
