When I read comments like this I always wonder, how did we learn the rules of what we consider traditional sports? -- (edited)

Like, I don't ever remember looking up a rule book for say baseball until I was like 30 but somewhere along life experience (kind of early I vaguely remember), I knew what the infield fly rule was. Baseball's gotta be kind of mystifying if you don't grow up with it. Why are some plays force outs and others aren't? And now there's things like ghost runners, intentional walks without pitching and the pitch clock.
Football has on occasion, one guy running a full speed but if their lineman teammate flinches at the line that's offsides. But then it's ok to flinch if the defense made an even more egregious move prior to the snap. Why's it called a snap? Like, I just know this stuff 🤷♂️
Just like language and immersion?
I'm still at a loss trying to number off all the traditional football (soccer) positions. Like what's a five? What makes a good five? Nobody seems to have the number 9 that they want for their team so I've figured out that's the striker for sheer amount of discussion about nines.
