Southwest is definitely doing it to try to make more money, so those concerns make sense. However, I'm hearing it also didn't work so well anymore....

..There was apparently rampant 'pre-board' abuse, i.e. dozens of people requesting wheelchairs for boarding (event though they didn't need wheelchairs) so they could get on earlier (and then saving seats for others)
