Other labels didn't seem to work.
What's weird (ha ha) to me about is that to me it's a much gentler attack than others, but it's having a bigger impact. One idea I read is that it takes power away. If you call someone a fascist or dictator or authoritarian it is a label that conveys power even if meant negatively. Weird conveys weakness and that's why it's getting to them so much and working.
The other thing is that weird is in the eye of the beholder any way. Generally, I like weird. I think a lot of people embrace their weirdness. Gay and trans people for example are used to being called weird.
Another reason some conservatives are taking it so badly is because they are convinced that they are the normal and the true way everything and everyone should be. From a DEI perspective we're all weird and we should embrace the weirdness.
