Now watching the mixed relay triathlon. Later is cycling in the velodrome. Where cyclists race round and round in an enclosed cavern on a lacquered

wooden track. These sports seem very first world centric, packaged for our consumption, that tv companies can intersperse with adverts for stuff that no one needs. There are zero African teams in these events. There should be a cross country running event. Even a bare footed race. What about an oyster diving competition or a dinghy rowing event with fishing mixed in. I’m beginning to think that there’s an inherent cynicism at play by the organisers of the games where the games are stacked with sports that contribute to a higher medal count for the countries of the first world consumer. And it’s always been like this and that I’m just realising it now.
