my friend's husband was skateboarding with his 10 year old on Friday.
Fell.
Broke his hip AND broke his femur (broke the femural ball off the top of the bone.)
Full hip replacement.
In hospital at least two more weeks (oddly enough, in my hometown - it was the closest hospital to where they were staying for the long weekend.)

There's a skateboarder on the US Olympic team who is 51. He started out with Tony Hawk and he really wanted to be in the Olympics, so he spent a year -- (edited)

Yikes!! I broke out my skateboard during the pandemic and after a few minutes I was done. I was too scared to fall.

It was just a few years ago I learned that "broken hip" was usually a reference to the femur not the pelvis.
