The format of the wrestling tournament at the Olympics is interesting.

For example with 16 competitors

Gold and Silver are straightforward - single elimination tournament ends with a Gold medal match between Finalist 1 and Finalist 2 with the winner getting gold and the loser getting silver.

Two bronzes are awarded, but they don't automatically go to the two who lost in the semifinals.

The person who lost to Finalist 1 in the round of 16 faces off against the person who lost to Finalist 1 in the quarterfinals. The winner of that match goes against the person who lost to Finalist 1 in the semifinals. The winner of that match gets a bronze medal.

The same thing happens for the people Finalist 2 defeated to award the second bronze medal.
