They broke open the plaque and put the record on a turntable to see what was on it. They noticed that it only had four songs from Paul's Boutique listed on the front when there should have been many more. When they put it on it played but it wasn't their music. It was piano music of songs from people like Barry Manilow. They assumed it was their record just in gold paint but nope.
They didn't test any other gold or platinum records to see what they were.

- They were thinking that they just grabbed any record, threw on a sticker and coated it in gold or platinum paint. I'm guessing they didn't expect - Krusty Aug 12, 08:53
