There's plenty of places to pickleball and they can play outside. Badminton courts are inside and need specialized air handling systems

Badminton is also an Olympic sport and pickleball isn't ;-)
Also chalk one up for the Asian who take the time to influence such decisions as Badminton is much larger deal to the Asian community.
