In response to "OTD 30 years ago, Portishead released their debut album Dummy. -- (link)" by mud

Their Coachella set is one of the most seared into my brain live music experiences I've had primarily due to Beth Gibbons

Their songs aren't exactly the happiest of things but they are powerfully emotional and ye gods Beth Gibbons made it sound like she was experiencing all of the pain for like the thousandth and yet first time all at once.

At the end, I kind of got why she was reluctant to perform live anymore. If she felt even a small fraction of the pain and hurt that I felt, well, that can't be fun regardless of being paid.
