During Obama, there was no bench. His above it all sense of politics destroyed the state parties. Trump brought it back in 2018, 2020…

From a purely political science standpoint, Obama was a bad president.
Downballot failings made better because the GOP ran a lot of crazy motherfuckers.
He could have gone from 60 senate to a minority in 4 years if the GOP hadn’t nominated Akin and the like.
