I think he opened doors but from a legit “leader of the party” standpoint, he failed. The bench now is the list of people who came up in the 16-18

I don’t dislike him but from an all-around steward of the party (which is a legitimate function of the President in PoliSci terms), he was lacking.
We go through spurts of generational pushes into politics usually after a crisis. Watergate/Vietnam leaders informed most of the last 50 years (Biden is the last really)
Trump’s ascension has spurred another wave of disgust and copycats from the next-gen looking to get in the mix.
