Used to be on our neighbor’s side of the fence and they’d cut it back to the root every year. Don’t even think they knew what it was. Fence line shifted slightly with the new fence so now it’s on our side so I let it grow to find out what we had. It’s now six feet tall after one season. I like the idea of having a tree but don’t want it fucking up our fence. Plus it’s on the morning side of the yard so wouldn’t provide much in the way of useful shade. I’ll probably dig it out in the winter once I cut back the hydrangeas it’s hiding behind.
