I don't think Gen X was ever marketed to all that much with our own voice/icons though. -- (edited)

IIRC, when we were that age, advertisers wanted us to be either sophisticated wine drinkers or itching to be adolescents again. You never had, like, Winona Ryder for Coca-Cola or Stone Temple Pilots for Lay's. That would have been impossible. We are the last generation to reject corporations taking over every aspect of our lives so now nobody knows what we are about.
