the Left wants to play nice and starve the oxygen ... yeah, that's not happening so don't cede the battlefield and let the bullshit win.
It's the same as the redistricting fights. The Democratic states aren't playing by the same rules as the GOP ones. They play fair. That's how in North Carolina (a 52-48 state in vote with a Democratic Governor), you have a situation where the GOP has a veto-proof super-majority.
You don't get that by playing by the rules. Play the battlefield that's sitting in front of you.
