In response to "This week in 1988 (I'll post a few more if there's a specific year request)" by MDH

Here are the top 10 songs in Australia, the same week

1 1 8 Perfect-Fairground Attraction
2 3 6 Simply Irresistible-Robert Palmer
3 4 3 Doctorin' The Tardis-Timelords
4 2 7 Age Of Reason-John Farnham
5 8 9 Don't Be Cruel-Cheap Trick
6 5 11 Better Be Home Soon-Crowded House
7 9 11 Wanna Be Up-Chantoozies
8 6 4 I Owe You Nothing-Bros
9 7 9 Got To Be Certain-Kylie Minogue
10 10 17 Underneath The Radar-Underworld

The second number is the poisiton from the previous week, the 3rd is the # of weeks in the charts

No surprise that there are some different names because of Australian acts but also successful UK bands got more play in Australia.

But also Monkey peaked at #13 in Australia, Sweet Child didn't chart there until October, and the Chicago song barely charted at all - it peaked at #50, and I'm pretty sure the first time I heard of the song was when I learned it was the band's only #1. Elton John didn't break the top 20 that year.
