*ponders* So kickstart a format while losing money on initial hardware? Is that the 'same' you're referring to?

Both Sony and Microsoft had digital only, no drive versions of their hardware for the launch of this current generation.
I guess Microsoft took it a half step further as their digital only unit isn't as graphically capable as the full hardware version. Well, at least that's what I remember from the launch specs. There's talk that this might be the last Microsoft console soooo....well, there's that.
But to me going digital only isn't the same as to the manufacturer the hardware costs are less, not more like it was for the PS3. If they can get everybody to forgo physical media (but not require a constant an online connection to play....won't somebody think of the submariners) then yeah that's a change. But it's kind of a change that's already underway?
I think the real pioneering thing is the price. If they can sell enough at that price point and Microsoft drops out of hardware...ho boy, the price of the PS6 is gonna be something.
