- The shift from economic-driven policies dominating political debate to rights-based policies (which inherently create binary "right-wrong" dichotomies);
- The shift of active party involvement away from "the normals" to "the activists"
- Less civic "responsibility to participate" in public debate, which also led to poorer quality of candidates willing to run and be successful;
- The reduction of "shame" in public figures, only encouraging the grifters;
- Money and media amplifying conflict;
- social media as nitro glycerin.
