Among other things, the guy who wrote that article overrated PTA.

Like most people.
I don't remember seeing Hughes on the list, but there are only 3 reasons that he may have been skipped. First, it was about the direction of the movies and not the overall quality. But I think that would play into a bias against comedies. I thought maybe he had a no comedy rule, formally or not, but I don't think that's the case. Or ruling him out due to Weird Science. Understandable, but his run of 5 is comedy movies for that time.
