For perspective, his family made it totally unscathed, but they're having to boil water to purify it.

My understanding is that everyone in that area, which is like a 40-mile radius, will have dirty water for the foreseeable future.
But there are some heroes already defying expectations. It sounds like those engineers at the dam performed something akin to a miracle to save it from widespread failure.
