3+ decades ago I spent a Christmas as a seasonal temp working at a USPS distribution center. The scope of what goes through the Service is staggering. -- (edited)

I mean it was then (3 billion something items a year) whereas now it’s more than an order of magnitude more. Losing 1% of anything is normal, and they are several decimal spots below a the 0.001% mark.
My advice to anyone is to pack so you’d be comfortable throwing across a big (like 30-40 feet?) room into a can, then throwing a dozen things on top of it. Pack it so it could comfortably make that trip, and it’ll get there fine.
Though our office was very careful with the containers or 🐝 bees we had come through.
