Mike Ilitch [Little Ceasers, Detroit Redwings, Detroit Tigers] Owns many historic landmark buildings in Detroit that he lets rot so the preservationists can't save the building ...... all so he can build a new Hockey Arena, parking lot and office towers.
The Detroit Train station [where part of Transformers 1 was filmed] is owned by the largest land owner in Michigan who refuses to let the city tear down the building [it's been marked for Demo for over 10 years].
Those photo's make Detroit look pretty bad, but the entire city doesn't look like that. I could take photo's of St. Louis and make it look just as bad if not worse.
