I keep thinking of SNL's "Did we need a dark take on Oscar the Grouch? No." spoof. On the other hand, The Penguin is excellent in a way that's less dour than Jessica Jones and manages to walk a line between comic-booky and straight drama.

Did we need an origin story for The Penguin? Yes.
