Long term, switching to Firefox on desktop and mobile, adding uBlock there (works on both!) and watching Youtube in-browser works well.

I also use SponsorBlock for Youtube on both mobile and desktop.
There is also Video Background Play Fix that will keep any video playing in browser on mobile playing when you turn your screen off, so you can listen to youtube videos, music, etc ad free without a care.
Firefox has been great in its current iteration. I've made a lot of tweaks to mine, like adding left-side tab structure and some visual changes. It's way ahead of Chrome at this point.
