I've just recently realized that I've watched this series in diminishing percentages of what I've actually seen.
Backstory: I was asked 6-8 weeks ago by FH's 20 something roommate if I wanted to go see Terrifier 3 on opening weekend. I was like the clown movie? (I'm vaguely pop culture / niche culture literate) Once that was confirmed, I said sure and then the task was left to watch the first two movies.
I watched the first knowing nothing other than it was the clown. Was pleasantly surprised that it was like an 80's period piece as well as it looked like the stuff I used to rent in high school from the local video place.
Soooooo.... I wasn't prepared. So I was slow to shade my eyes / look away for some of the stuff.
#2 I think I was going to initially double feature them and then I saw the running time, looked at the clock, asked myself why that running time (Important note, an opinion completely based on the first movie) and then punted until another night. For whatevers, I did see what I think is the signature kill of the first one.
Terrifier 2. Now prepared. I still actually watched less of the really bad kills (I guess, I didn't watch 🤷♂️) this one than the previous one but still. I was not prepared for just gross stuff and so watched some really inventive but yeah didn't need to see that in the early laundromat sequence and I've been taken my 'safe' to start watching again from the soundtrack and there's stuff that's bad to see but doesn't have corresponding screams.
Terrifier 3. Now I'm in a theater with a group and out in public. And we're in like the 4th from the row so it's not like we're in background. Zero shame. There's parts that I was not only eyes closed but physically turned to the side.
And I get that these all sound awful but at the same time, I really liked these movies. Especially the nightmare / dream sequence of 2.
.....my less than A rating are based on the fact that there's a bunch going on in the lore of these movies and at the same time there's a bunch of stuff that's just never followed up.
....But that also means that I'm judging them on an actual movie rating criteria
I'm with Dano, it's a way better series than Wrong Turn cause like it's actually a series of movies.
To me, it's a difficult to compare but equal to the Phantasm series. They're both singular visions.
